Hello from Chicago
Greetings everyone, I'm a newbie here. Life-long Chicagoan (North Side of the City), 46 years old. For various reasons, didn't ride for 26 years. Last month, I changed that and bought a new hybrid bike (Cannondale Adventure 600) - my first new bike in over 35 years! I haven't ridden great distances with it, but am enjoying riding around on short trips of 2 to 7 miles, on my new wheels. I have to say that the bike purchasing experience was an eye-opener for me, especially since I hadn't looked at or priced bikes since I was a kid. At the same time that I bought my bike, I got a lovely helmet (that coordinates nicely with my bike) ; o ) and wear it every time I go out. The traffic on the streets of Chicago (or anywhere, for that matter) can be crazed so I don't want to take any chances. I'm enjoying reading posts on the various forums -- believe me, it is a whole new world of biking for me and I have much to catch up on and learn. Happy riding to you all. Cin

Thanks for the nice welcome! Have never been a cold weather rider, but am hoping to change that and keep riding the new bike well into the fall/winter. Will continue to read the posts to gather inspiration and riding tips. Have a good evening.

welcome cindy,
as a transplanted northsider, I ask that you eat a Lou Malnati's fresh tomato pizza and two double char-cheddar dogs from the Weiner's Circle in my honor.

Hi Dave, thanks for the welcome. As you know, Chicago is such a food town. As much as I would love to eat tons of LM's pizza and other treats in your honor, I NEED TO LOSE WEIGHT. Arrrrrgh. Gained eight pounds over the last 4 months. Now, I have to get rid of those bad boys first, and then work on losing another 16 pounds to reach my "dream weight." No deep dish for me for awhile, but I'll eat some lean protein and take a bike ride in your honor. Have a good one. Cindy

Cindy, welcome. That's a nice bike. I got an adventure 1000 a year ago and find the engineering and craftsmenship superb. Bike looks so simple and clean, yet underneath there is lots of good stuff that makes the ride pleasurable. Want a beautiful, easy ride? Try the Manitowac to Two rivers trail in Wisconsin (North of Sheboygan) . A great outing.
Have fun.

Hey Cindy. Welcome back to the cult. If traffic bugs you and you get tired of the lake path next year, drive out to Union or Belvidere. You can park on any street (for free), unload your bike and within minutes be riding past cows not cars. My wife and I can ride from our front door and do 100 miles without messing with a bike rack. It's pretty OK but Charlie Trotters is still a long drive in the car. Would be happy to fill you in on the best places and other organized rides. Enjoy! Ken (and Suzie)

Welcome, Cindy. I grew up on the North Side of Chicago and now live in a western suburb. If you ever interested in riding one of the paths out this way, let me know.

Cindy,
Welcome and enjoy your bike. I also live in the Chicagoland area. Get some cold riding gear and enjoy your rides. Do not let the cold weather discourge you.
