New 'cyclist Gardendale, AL

Hello everyone, I recently decided to start saving up some money for a new bike. It will of course be my first real bike and my first bike to have sense I was like 10 years old. I am currently 25 and I will turn 26 August 21st. I live in Gardendale, AL which is just north of Birmingham. I am looking to get some sort of hybrid for mostly pavement riding that I will use for recreation, exercise, and maybe some short commutes.

I am still very new to the whole cycling thing and don't really know much about bikes besides for the fact that they have 2 wheels. That is part of the reason I joined this site, and I want to thank you all for helping me so much already (from reading ). I did visit the a local bike shop (Bob's Bikes) the other day and they pointed me towards a specialized crosstrail and maybe a Giant Roam (b/c I told them I will be riding on a few gravel/dirt driveways and roads).

As for me, I have been married for 5 years and my interest include pretty much all sports and model rocketry (i'm a bit of a nerd lol). We currently have no kids but we do have 2 very spoiled dogs: a retired racing greyhound and an Italian Greyhound.

Thank you all for welcoming me to the forums and hopefully I'll be talking to you some on the forums!

Welcome to Bike Forums.

Your best help would be from a friendly local bike shop.
They can be quick to answer questions and help with minor adjustments.
You may have already found that shop.

Many here will be happy to help you anytime.
Thanks for joining.
