Newbie looking for a new bike. Any suggestions????

Probably looking to spend around $500.

Was loyal to my mongoose mountain bike but want a hybrid now (i still love riding on the dirt time to time)

Giant? SE Lager? Trek Cross? What's the best for my money to do some good and fun ridding?

Thank you
gary
