Commuting turned to health/hobby and "the good life"
Native New Yorker. I always loved to ride when I was younger, and after years of not riding regularly as an adult, I took up cycling to work.
I ride 12-14 miles into the city for work, round trip, 4 or so days a week since last November.
I dropped 40lbs (5' 11" - from 300 to 260), and I'm still losing weight.
It didn't take too long before I started riding for recreation and exploring the parks, bridges, and other scenic area's.
I ride a Giant Escape 2 Hybrid, with a few custom parts.
Kool stop MTB breaks on the rear.
MKS Lambda platform pedals. (My LBS discovered that I had cracked the originals in half, but luckily the rubber held until I replaced them.)
Michelin City ProTek rear tire.
Vittoria Raddoneur double shielded kevlar front tire.
I've racked up over 1500 gps (android SportyPal app) tracked miles since February.
I like to do about 20 miles for fun. I will likely step this up over time.
I find myself blathering about cycling and my commute so much, it seems to have lead me here.

Thanks, I was initially drawn to the commuting forum, but I will certainly poke around the hybrid section a bit now too.
