fairly New Rider
I live in Garden City Michigan and do most my riding over on Hines Dr. I love riding in the mornings for it seems to set the pace for the day. Last night I did my long distance ride (43 miles) for the week and really ran into some rude guys. Why is it that some of the riders think that being rude to people they don't even know makes things alright? This one guy even had the nerve to scream at me as he went by, "Get over on the slow riding track". I'm sorry, didn't realize he owned the area. This was towards the end of my 43 mile ride so I just thought to myself, "What ever". I bet he wasn't that far into a ride. I am happy to report that he is the first and hopefully the rudest person that I will run into.

Unfortunately he wont be the last rude rider you will run into. It's kinda like surfing, there are locals that are cool and will welcome you to a new spot, & there are locals that get really irate and will attempt to intimidate you with hopes you'll just go away & never return. I'm 185lbs and muscular so I haven't been harassed by anybody in either sport, I don't surf anymore due to service connected disability but but prior to my injuries I was 220 and solid as a rock. As a matter of fact I chased the Slater brothers out of Oceanside harbor, & these guys are the some of best surfers in the world, but they just kept dropping in on my waves, as they weighed 150 soaking wet and could paddle much faster than I could. I developed a new strategy, I would let them take the better wave & while they were paddling back out I was on the next wave I aimed right for them jumped of my board and tackled Christian. They left with their tales between their legs. I just love that story, sorry for rambling, but the bike scene is similar, it's usually the guys that weigh as much as their $10,000.00 bike that roll past me & I am always friendly & say hi, hows it going, they wont even look at me. But I will say there'r less of them than the cool riders, most are friendly and have even stopped & given me directions and advice when I asked, so don't let the pin headed pencil necks bother you.

Yep, fellow Jarhead here, retired GySgt. What these rude people don't know about me is the fact that I am a Marine. I've been shot at in combat, attemped to be blown up in Beirut in 1983 and I'm still here. I take the BS that rude people throw my way and laugh at them. With me just starting out, no I'm not as strong of a rider as some of the men but with my drive in training, I'll get there in no time. Last year I at this time I weighed 325 lbs. I took back control of my life by having bariatric bipass surgery and I sit here today weighing 173 lbs.. I train every day and I am buliding the body back up into what it once was as a Marine Scout/Sniper from 1982 to 2002, with that said, I will never be rude to other riders. I enjoy the sport and will be right there to the day that the good Lord takes me home. To all that responded to this thread, Semper Fi and thanks for the support.

Thank you much, in my training for it, Sat. is my long distance ride day. This past Sat. I rode 43 miles with the legs (thighs) being a little sore towards the end. You have any advice for during the Centry ride? I know there is going to be some discomfort there with the ride. Its not every day that a human gets on a bicycle and rifes it for 100 miles, even the body is smart enough to know this.
