Been lurking about for the last year or so. Snipeing information and what not, and decided with my purchase of an early 60's Raleigh Superbe yesterday to go ahead and join up.
Anyway, I lived in the Southern burgs of Detroit in the 80's and was one of the last paper boys for the Detroit News. Did that for 3 years (age 12-13). Wish I still had that bike. (82'ish Schwinn Cruiser). Rain shine snow...it did it all, with 100lbs of papers in the bags.
Didn't bike much after that. I got my car when I quit/fired (paper went to auto routes). And it was after all Detroit.
Started biking again in 1992 when I moved to downtown Portland. Got at the time a top of the line Raleigh MT 500. Great bike, and was king of the road. At the time biking in Portland was like any other city. And I was shouldering rear view mirrors in the traffic downtown. There weren't many of us then, other than the messengers.
Eventually moved to the East side, and drove more. But now I'm kinda going back. Just recently gave my son my Iron Horse Journey hybrid so he can ride to school. And just picked up my own little classic as mentioned above.
Just recently fixed up a early 70's gals Freespirt 12 speed and sold it. I have always liked working on bikes. And I am looking forward to learning and gaining more experience.
