Bike noob from Norcal

Hi...new to bikes and new here. I have been reading this forum for awhile to learn about cycling, but haven't posted yet. I want to be able to ride to work, which is 12 miles each direction. Great info on this site. I will post up the bike I bought last week which I was told should work well for commuting- an older cannondale mountain bike with no suspension.
