    New guy from Memphis, TN!!

So, my name is Elvis..... Kidding!! My name is Adam and I am fairly new to cycling. I started riding a couple of months ago and have ridden every day since. I bike 30 miles to from work every single day and love it like crazy. I ride an 80's Peugeot Carbolite 103 and it is definitely not light!! It is being ridden single speed, even though I want to be geared, due to the fact that I haven't had money to buy a groupset. The bike gets me from point A to B and I average about 18 mph doing so. I recently rode in my first cycling rally to raise money for Le Bonheur Children's Hospital. The ride was Go Jim Go and it encompassed Memphis, North Mississippi and eastern Arkansas, a total of 333 miles. I hope to get more involve in cycling and definitely could use any advice anyone has!!

    Thanks,
    Adam

Doesn't look like a heavy bike. I find it funny how people will spend thousands to shave 4lbs off their bike when the rider is 50lbs overweight. Great to see you're getting involved and doing it for the right reasons, keep up the good work.

Thanks everybody! I didn't have the plans to get as involved in riding as I am but I am sure glad I did!! I love it, even in the high winds, cold and rain I still love it. Basically I ride for health, necessity and to use what strength and stamina I have as a rider for a better cause. I am a participant in Le Bonheur Children's Hospital fundraisers and I love it. Seeing the smile on children's faces because we rode 333 miles and raised $160,000 for a selfless hospital, that makes my day and makes all the sore muscles, broken bike parts, blood and sweat worth it!

Check out my thread about the Go Jim Go! ride if you get a chance!!

That Peugeot sure has an agressive angle on the steering head, sure sign of a dedicated racer. How was it in the comfort area on the Go Jim Go ride?

I actually didnt ride the Peugeot in Go Jim Go! I rode a road bike from Target lol. It definitely wasn't comfortable and broke at the 327th mile mark and I finagled it and made it a single speed to finish out the ride/ The Peugeot is fantastically comfortable. I love it!

My oldest boy back in Florida rides a Schwinn purchased at Walmart to work and college every day. Nothing wrong with these bikes, and you can't beat the prices. What ever it takes to get people on two wheels is alright with me.

Yeah, the only problem I had with it was the fact it weighed a ton and the cassette shattered almost at the end of the ride. I made spacers with zip ties and put one piece of my cassette on to finish the ride. I then retired the back and went to the Peugeot. At least I didn't give up!!!!!!!
