Hello from Palatine IL
Hello,
I took up running a couple years ago and have gotten into an active lifestyle. I presently do not own a bike. I do plan to buy one in the spring to supplement my running. I have joined this site to educate myself before making a purchase.

welcome to the boards I do most of my riding at deer grove and have ridden pretty much everything there. You can make any bike work there, but some types of bike will be better suited to certain trails, just depends on where you want to ride. Good luck with the research, this is where I started with bikes (now I have 2) and it's a great resource. If you have questions just ask.

Hi there. I too am new to the forum and live about 25 miles northwest of you. I'm back to biking after a decade long hiatus. My current loves are hybrids, which appear to be pretty versatile. There are a number of good shops in the area. Mike's, right in Palatine has a nice selection and friendly staff, but they can be a bit pricey on accessories. Village Cyclesport has a couple locations in Barrington and Arlington Heights. They have always been extremely helpful. For chain stores, there is Performance in Schaumburg. Prices are reasonable.
Good luck in your search.

Thanks for the welcome, everyone. I am going to stop in Mike's and Village Cyclesport today to hopefully at least be able to see in person the quailty of some of the bikes I have looked at on the internet. Since I am an older guy I see the 50+ group here will be of some interest to me.
