Hi, I'm John

I've had bikes my whole life, but I never rode seriously until this past summer. A friend of mine is an avid mountain biker and he invited me along one Saturday. I had a mountain bike I bought at Sears a few years ago, so I went along. Needless to say, I was hooked. It took less than two months to destroy the Sears bike, but I've replaced it. I now have a Specialized Hardrock and a LeMond Etape. I tend to ride more on the road than on the trails, but I'm doing both and loving it.

I'm still a beginner, and I'm always looking for new places to ride.

Welcome to the forums John! I've driven through your town a few times on my way to do business with Robins AFB (in my previous life, that is) from Langley, VA. How's the road riding out that way?

There are a couple of good places to ride around here. From Milledgeville, there is a place they call the pavilion. It looks like an interstate rest stop. It's on Hwy 112, on the south side of town. Roadies park there and head out on the hwy towards Toomsboro. There's a loop about 8 miles out that most riders take that will eventually bring them back for about a 31 mile ride. I like to keep going out on the hwy past Toomsboro (about 21 miles one way) and then ride back the same way. The road is smooth and there are lots of hills to get your heart rate up.

Closer to Macon, in Bolingbroke (on I75, north side of macon), riders park in a place they call the triangle. There are a lot of loops out there. Riders and runners are out there almost every day, so, although there is some traffic, they're used to watching for us.
