30-somthing MTB/Commuter/Trekker

Hello,

My name is Tom, I currently live in Yokohama Japan and regularly commute to work, trek around the country via bike, and when I lived in the Sates did a lot of trail riding.

Never particularly dug the big-air down hill thing, and spandex-speed road racing doesn't really work for me either, though I appreciate that there is a lot of good in both of those areas, and a lot of people really like them.

Bikes:
(with me in Japan)
200X Cannondale CAAD2 hard tail slick-fat tire commuter...the only thing still left on the frame from the factory is the paint
2009 Cannondale Carbon Rize...way too clean, because I haven't really found much for mountain biking in this part of Japan yet.
soon 2012 Lynskey Cooper CX... Bicycle Times recommended this bike to me when I asked for some advice on a new commuter/fat-tire/road bike that had to be made in USA and have disk brakes.
(storage in USA)
195X Schwinn bow framed classic cruiser...red, chrome, and rust colored...a fun and funky project to bring back to life
197X Worksman folding bike...great bike for all kinds of things where speed is NOT what you want...wish I had it here...
2001 Cannondale SuperV700...another classic project bike...
2005 Gary Fisher Tassajara frame...I might have issues...

Welcome! That is a nice collection. Got to visit Japan some day, to get 60's GS music and slot cars, for example.

Thanks. I actually really love riding here. Even without dedicated bike lanes, heavy traffic, and narrow roads, I still feel safer than I did when commuting in the States.

...I will say that I really miss all of the and the ready access to the amazing trails of the Pacific North West, where I lived before moving here.
