30-something commuter hopeful from Jacksonville, FL.

Stefani here. I just started biking about 2 weeks ago. Picked up a doozy at Walmart, Genesis Terra 700c Women's Hybrid Bike. It's certainly nothing to brag about, but it was in my price range for the moment and I like it. One day, I'll get myself a snazzy bike at the LBS, but until then, I'm gonna ride this Terra mother effer into the ground! That being said, I certainly need to look into an emergency kit.

I hope to be able to do a 40 r/t commute to work everyday, eventually, but I have to work my way up to it considering how out of shape I am. For now, I drive about 2 miles away from the office, park the car and bike the rest. Each week, or every two weeks, I plan to drive just a bit farther away from the office for a longer bike ride. Baby steps.

I don't plan on doing any races or anything like that, but I do look for good routes to enjoy. I mainly want the exercise and saving on gas, but I've never really enjoyed the ride until now.

Happy to be here!

Thanks!! I'm also hoping lifting the bike to put it on the bike rack on my car gets easier, too. Didn't know I had those muscles until they became sore.

Wow that's one heck of a commute to do on bike. I thought about trying to commute on bike as well, but for me it would mean crazy roads or twice the time on back roads so it just didn't make sense. Hope it all works out for you and keep us posted on the progress!!
