Greetings From Vancouver Island
Hi. My User Name is L Berni Duck, living in beautiful Port Alberni on Vancouver Island on the south-west coast of British Columbia. My actual name is Bill.
I've been all over the internet lately, including this forum, looking for information on and parts for my 1983-ish Nishiki Continental. This is a Canadian brand touring bike manufactured by Kawamura and imported by Norco. I registered in order to discover if anyone here also owns one of these, and to find out about parts suppliers for vintage bikes, sorting through the hype of cycling gear & clothing, and also just to connect with this new-found comuunity.
I am not exactly new to cycling, having commuted for very brief periods in Calgary in the '70s and Vancouver in the '80s, but I am newly returned to it.
I've owned my mostly original Nishiki since 1987, when I found it abandoned in an apartment storeroom in Vancouver. I used it for commuting for several months there and then put it in a garage here in Port Alberni until August 2011, when I began to commute on it again.
I've disovered that I really love this bike. I am starting to replace worn out parts, but I would like to keep it as close to original as possible, without going full on into a total restoration. I intend this to be a daily ride, as it has been for the past 9 months.
I hope to meet some of you soon as I look over the posts for information before starting any of my own.
