Hi From New Mexico
I was very glad to find this site especially the folder and communting forums. Last summer I wanted to buy a folder, but I couldn't find one for sale within the state, so I decided to open a specialty bike shop. I'm particularly interested in promoting utilitarian cycling.

Welcome to the forums wpflem! Interesting reason to open a bike shop. Although it is a specialty shop, do you carry traditional bikes as well?

No, we only offer folders for sale. I initially wanted to offer other alternative bikes like recumbents and adult tricycles, but decided against it due to space limitations.

Way to go! One of the things about NM is that when you wanted sopmething you had to go to Albuquerque. It's about time Santa Fe had a bike shop. Hope you do well, can expand and get some room for other types of bikes.

Thanks for your comments.
Indeed I think being so specialized is a challenge; just being in the biking business is a business challenge to survive given the high failure rate of bicycle shops. We are located close to the plaza in Santa Fe so I hope to attract a good bit of tourist traffic. Also knowing that Santa Fe is the country's third largest art market, I started putting together a vintage photo gallery simply as a store attraction; however, I don't have that up yet (it is planned), instead I've been diverted into the world of amazing vintage posters principally of the period from 1890 to 1930 and I've aquired a very respectible number of orininal vintage and reproductions that are now on display. So we started out planning to open as THE SANTA FE FOLDING BICYCLE COMPANY but finally opened our doors this month as SANTA FE BIKES & GALLERY. I think one of the keys to success will be a strong web presence. I am due for a modification submission this weekend for a website update. It is www.sfbikes.com
