A new guy from the Chi

Wanted to say I have been lurking the forums for a few months, especially since I picked up my 1982 Schwinn Continental. Being born in '84 (don't judge!) I love the feel of an old bike, I used to ride my dad's old 70 something Schwinn as a kid and hated when it broke down.

As a Chicagoan I have seen my fair share of the "interesting" riders out there that pay no attention to traffic, gamble with their lives as they ignore traffic laws, cruise through stop signs and red lights (and drivers at on that same note). I try my best as a car driver and rider to be on the alert, and I ride as courteous as possible because I know what it is like to deal with a bicyclist who isn't paying attention. So I am neither of "that guy!" when I am driving or riding.

I have a goal of doing a century run this fall, if I can get the training in, and lose another 20 lbs by then. My wife is preggers with our first little dude and he will be here shortly (like less than 6 weeks as I type), so I am excited to enjoy rides with my boy (and future kids) and train them to be proper riders.

I am looking for some people who might be down to train for a century, or have ridden one and would be down for helping me train! I am not a slow rider, I prefer a bit of speed and want to be in a spot by next summer to run a century in 5 hours (they have a run for charity around here). Not that I average 20 on a normal ride, but I don't pedal slow.

Thanks for an awesome source of info and inspiration, and I am excited to share my results of fiddling and perspiration! I am a mechanic by trade and I am ALWAYS tinkering with something and making things.
