My name is Sam, and I was a huge BMX enthusiast many years ago. In fact when all of my friends started to get into motorcycles, I couldn't grasp the concept of twisting the throttle to go and just kept peddling. Well along came my 16th birthday and found 4 wheels and horsepower. After that my bike stayed in the garage. Well I'm 43 now and I really want to feel the freedom of riding without burning fuel.
Flash forward to a couple of months ago where I got this crazy notion that I could build an electric bicycle to get me to and from working a daily basis. Mind you it's only a 5 mile trip, but with the hills and my physical abilities, I need help of an electric motor or two.
I really like the look and ride of the stretch beach crusiers. Well I ran out and bought a Phat stretch cruiser. Now I'm going to start building it into my ultimate commuter and beach cruiser. I've got some ideas and some fabrications skills that might get me by. My goal is to build a dual BMC hub powered Phat stretch cruiser with a 48V system. I haven't had much time building ebikes, but I do have experience working on electric cars (anybody remember the Ev1?). I'll probably have a lot of questions as cycling has changed a lot in the past 25 years so be patient with me.
