Absolute beginner

Hello everyone,

I have bought myself a mountain bike just last week and am here to look for some motivation

A couple years ago I was fat and started looking after myself with regular exercise and eating well and have lost over 30kg and am pretty close to being at a healthy weight. I enjoyed walking and jogging outdoors but recently have been diagnosed with arthritis. Boooo!! So in an effort to protect my knees a bit I've decided to try cycling.

I live on a big farm in the outback which is quite sandy so most of my riding will be on tracks around here. At the moment I'm just doing 20 mins at a time and trying to work the gears out and hope to build up soon. I think I have a pretty good level of fitness but know I have declined a bit lately since I haven't been jogging much but I hope to increase my distances soon.

Off to look around!

Welcome to the forum. There is a ton of information here and a lot of people who obviously love riding so this should be a good place to become inspired. What type of terrain are you on? Is it flat? What type of bike did you get?

I am just starting out as well and am looking forward to adding this as a fun way of getting exercise.

I agree with the fun way of exercising ... I can only plod around by myself but my nearest bif town has a bike club so maybe I could tag along with them if I am in town.

Terrain is only slightly undulating and pretty sandy ... I have discovered that the sandiest parts are a bit tricky! I am still getting used to the gears.
I have a Trek 3500 ... which I hope means something to someone I did a bit of reading up first but really put it all in the hands of the bike shop owner. He was pretty good and probably could have sold me a more expensive bike but insisted it would only have features that I wouldn't use anyway.
