Hello from Central Mississippi

Hi Everyone! My name is Mark and I live in Flowood MS. I rode a bike nearly every day of my life from age 5 to 15 and then got a drivers license. I didn't get back on a bike until last year at age 43. I wanted a different exercise routine and bought a mass market Schwinn comfort/hybrid type model at the local Target. My first ride was 7 miles in the MS heat of June and it almost killed me. But I loved it and kept at it. I quickly got up to 300 miles per month and this spring bought my first real bike - an entry level road bike. (Marin Portofino) I have done over 2400 miles so far this year and have a goal of 4000. Most of my rides are 15-25 miles but I will do the occasional 40-50, but that's my longest. I lost 30 lbs which was one of the main incentives of getting started but in recent months have let 10 creep back on. While we have lots of great bike paths and roads to get on them near me, I still find myself going over some rougher paved terrain, bumps, curves, etc. I have started wishing I had gotten more of a hybrid so I wouldn't have to worry with flats quite so much. I love the speed of my Marin, but just need a bit more durability. My two closest LBSs carry Trek and I had my eyes on a FX series bike. But a week ago I saw the new Crossrip bike they have in their new 2013 lineup and I am lusting after it! I expect I'll have a new bike by year end. Despite diving in and riding a lot, I really don't know a lot about cycling yet. I am learning fast on this site and other great Internet sources. I am looking forward to learning more from you guys and gals.
