Hi from Kansas
46 y/o guy here who just woke up and got off the couch. Haven't ridden since high school but I'm easing back into it. Just bought a hybrid and did a lot of "research" here lurking and reading other's posts. Thanks for all the past info!

Welcome!
I lived in Kansas for most of my life. Slipped over to Mizzy about a year and a half ago. Lot's of good riding in KS for sure. Ck out the plains regional forums. Maybe there's a good hybrid group ride.

Hey there, bjtyner.
Independence, MO here ... but Kansas born and bred. You don't mention what part of Kansas you're from, but last Friday (Aug 10), my wife and I did a 50 miler on the Prairie Spirit Trail from Ottawa to Garnett. It's a very nice ride, with a very gradual grade (where there is a grade). The trail is part of a rails-to-trails conversion of an old, abandoned Santa Fe RR line, extending from Ottawa to Iola. Be sure to check it out if you get the chance.

EDIT: BTW, your hybrid should do quite nicely on the trail, which is paved with chipped limestone chat.

Hey, thanks for the info. I actually live in Newton but read about that trail and wondered how it was. Also looking into riding the KATY trail next spring. Looks like they'd both be a lot of fun.

Welcome to the forum, from British Columbia, Canada. You're about the same age as I was when I re-started bicycle touring after 32 years.
Hope you really enjoy cycling again....maybe even get the touring bug like me.
