New rider - SF Bay Area
Hi everyone,
I am new to this forum but not to bikes, having ridden mtn bikes for many years and once doing the California AIDS Ride from SF to LA (on a modified Stumpjumper). I also have a Trek 7500fx for around town and a Trek 520 for longer rides, although I have never toured on it (at least not yet). I would like to try that this year and also plan to do more road riding for fitness. I am also a motorcycle touring junkie - I guess if it has two wheels I like it! So, I live in San Mateo and will be riding more of the Peninsula routes and hope to see you out there.
regards,
john

Welcome! I am down in S.J. You ever take any of your bikes over hwy 84 to the coast (e.g. San Gregorio, etc.)? There are lots of Bay Area folk on here, you're in good company

I have used my Trek 520 for touing, but mostly for commuting in the nonwinter months. I even used it to go up Mt Tam, in Marin, until I got tired of the flats that resulted from the descents. I live in Minnesota now, and miss the hills. Always glad to have another Bay Area person on the forums.

Thanks for the welcome.
'nother - yes I have ridden over to San Gregorio a few times, as well as down Hwy 1 once, although that ride is done more frequently on the motorcycle. I love going down either side of the mountain on 84. We are so blessed here. Today I rode down to Woodside, then up Kings Mtn and back down Skyline to 92. It was a perfect ride, even with the traffic coming back from the coast on 92.
Iceratt - I bet you are missing the warmer weather for riding, but there is always cross country skiing I suppose. Yes, the 520 is a great commuter - so comfortable and relatively indestructible. I love mine but may look for a lighter roadbike soon for training and local loops.
