Aloha, new biker on oahu!

Hi, im 14 and ive always had fun riding my bike. I started to really get into the idea of racing and just having a really fun road bike which i could commute to wherever on. So I saved up my money and bought a Felt Z85, my child...anyway ever since then ive been doing some casual rides and some long rides, havent done anything over 12 miles though. Looking for a mentor of sorts and friends to bike with.

If anyone knows of some relatively moderately paced rides on Oahu (i live on the windward side) id love to check one out, If there are any other teens that ride id like to meet them, I only average right now on flats about 25-35kmh give or take on the high end sometimes more but around 30 is the pace i aim for. I only started road biking about a month or so ago. Have my own gear(jersey, shorts(might be a little small for me) computer, pump, helmet) only things i don't really have are a bottle(i have a bottle holder) and clip less shoes. Thanks and cant wait to meat some of you.

Hello, how are you young man? Welcome to Bike Forums.

I'm going to see if I can find some local people who can provide the info you request.

Meanwhile, take a look in this Pacific forum. There isn't much action in there, but look around there for anybody that may live on Oahu and try to get in contact with them.

Try this guy too. He's offline right now, but try to track him down the next time he's online.

Aloha and welcome to the forum!

If you bought your Felt bike new I assume you bought it from Island Triathalon and Bikes on Kapahulu Ave. That shop has several group rides every week. Most of them are labeled as beginner friendly meaning they don't turn anyone down and they won't leave you behind. Check the website for their schedule.
https://itbhawaii.com/

I just got my bike today so I haven't been on any yet but I do plan on joining up with them. They also offer several classes on bike maintenance and riding safety.

Another great website to visit is the Hawaii Bicycling league at www.hbl.org . For the foreseeable future I am mostly going to be commuting to/from work but I hope to get in good enough shape to eventually ride in the century ride - a 100 mile competition (I'll have no hopes of winning - just happy to be able to complete it)..

Thanks for the info, I just contacted IT&B about their saturday ride as it seems doable lol. Even though its a no person left behind sort of ride, I still feel self conscious about not keeping up and/or holding others up. But thank you guys again for all of the info! Hope to see you sometime while biking robble.

Welcome to the forums! 14? You're one of the more younger members around here, but don't feel intimidated. It's nice to see people so young riding bikes!
