Lost and Found in Sonoma CA
Newbie here. My son forwarded me a link of a posting on Bike Forums in 2011, looking for me. So I joined so I could respond. I don't know who the person is but they were incredibly kind and complimentary and I can't resist finding out who they are.
As they mentioned, I lived in Arcata CA in the '70s and '80s with my wife-to-be, and we had great times on bikes. I rode in some of the early west coast mountain bike events and over the last 30 years have made friends and annoyances up and down the state and especially here in my children's home town of Sonoma.
Now I'm a casual hop-on-my-old-bike-for-an-errand rider, and I mostly ride a 1984 Fisher Montare that has somehow survived the years with me. Drop bars, single speed but with a freewheel since I think the freewheel was one of the significant milestones in bicycle development and improvement and I really like them. It still has its sticker from the first ever Mammoth Mountain World Championships, where the great Scot Nicol took the overall number one spot.
My wife and I still live in Sonoma and have fond memories of the Whiskeytown Downhill, the Central Coast Klunker Classic, the Tahoe-To-Truckee, and rides taken all over California with the late Ron Harford, Ken Beach, Victor Vicente of America, Gary Fisher, Matt Jordan, Judie Osborn, Paul Cunningham, Ray Glover, Harry Spehar, Paul Genge, Art Brown, Glenn Cusick, the owner of the Bicycle Peddler whose name escapes me right now, and so many more people I don't remember but wish I did.
