New Here.

Hello everyone,

First and foremost, just want to say hi. I live near Toronto. Excited to pick up my first REAL bike..lol.

I just joined the site. Looking to get on a bike for trails and some mountain biking. I am beyond confused from doing research and talking to a local bike shop. I am hoping all the experts on here could maybe help me out, and I am looking forward to learning more. Please move this post to the right section if its not correct.

Here are a few bikes I was looking at, please let me know what your thoughts are. I am looking to do mainly trails with my gf, and some offroading (few small jumps, dirt, etc). Not sure if I should be going Hybird or mountain (leaning towards mountain.)

My local shop carries mainly the following brands, I have read that they are among the top brands. (please correct me if I am wrong).

Specialized: (mountain)

Norco: (toss up between 9.2 and 9.1)(mountain)

Giant: (hybrid)

Thanks in advance.

Let your girl friend decide what is the best one for you.

If you are going to do dirt, don't get a hybrid.

This is the usual route:

Guy buys a mountain bike. Guy gets beat up riding the trails and wants to get better. Guy needs a road bike because its easier to do intervals and endurance on them. Guy buys a road bike, decides that nice smooth asphalt is better than roots and rocks. Guy lists mountain bike on eBay.

YMMV.

Dudelsack has much wisdom.
