New guy-Fairfax Va

Hello everyone, I am new to the forum, but a returning cyclist. I used to ride road bikes throughout high school and into college, and then suddenly dropped the hobby for really no good reason. Now I am back, MTB and touring. Im currently rocking a GT Karakorum, and in the market for a decent touring bike. Have done one tour this year on my mountain bike, a two day ride from WV to NoVa, and while it worked out, I can see the advantages to something made specifically for touring.

I would love some suggestions, looking to spend less than $1000 on the bike itself, and while I know craig's list can be a good resource, I am looking for a brand and a bike that will hold up for a few years and be comfortable, durable and enjoyable to ride.
