Returning to Biking for Fun and Fitness

Hi there,

I'm Mike, in my mid-twenties and started biking again last year after a ten year hiatus. Never thought to look online for a biking community. I recently traded up my department store mountain bike (Quest Sierra) for a Hybrid bike (Raleigh Detour 4.5) to ride for recreation and weight loss. I live in the country so I ride mostly on uneven highways, dirt roads and once in awhile a half-finished bike path. I always been fond of exploring new places so I've been looking into doing a couple organized tours starting in NY that are supposed to be decent rides; Erie Canal Tour (8 day 400 miles) and the Hudson Valley Tour (6 day 200 miles). If anyone has done either of these rides or know of any others, and can give me some pointers I'd greatly appreciate it.

As for fitness, I weighed in at 210-lbs last year when I decided to get back on the bike. At the end of April when I decided to buy the new bike, I weighed in at 180-lbs, my goal is to be at or around 160-lbs by 2014.

Hi Mike, glad you chose to join in here at BF, welcome aboard. Try ouor Regional Forums and find your area to et with others for rides and to locate trails and tours. We have a hybrid Bike Forum and a Toruing Forum, both of these will help you out and answer your questions. Nice work on your weight loss, too.

Bill
