Hello from Bonney Lake, WA
I've been lurking for a while and thought it high time to register & introduce myself!
I'm a 53-year-old homeschooling mom from Bonney Lake, WA. It's been a while since I've enjoyed riding bikes and feel like I'm missing out when my husband and kids (ages 8 & 9) go out for a ride - especially on some of these great rails-to-trails bike paths nearby.
But I had a bad fall off my current bike last year (Trek Mountain Track 830 - probably 20 years old?) not to mention my knees and back aren't what they use to be, I've put on a few pounds, and have arthritis in my toes and hands (so they numb easily and can't shift well). My kids get a laugh whenever I attempt to mount/dismount my bike (practically have to lay it down or use the porch) - I'm sure you get the picture! I really want to get back into shape - just want to ENJOY it, relatively pain-free, and think a new bike might be just the cure.
So I'm researching and plan to buy a new mommy bike. I love the look/geometry of the flat feet / crank forward and step-thru models. Based on my limited research, I've decided to go out and look and try:
1. the TREK PURE (wish they still had the 21 sport model - maybe I can find one used?),
2. the TREK SHIFT 2 (love everything I've read about it and the Shift 3, but need to see it in person and compare it to the Pure to see if I can still stand behind the pedals),
3. the ELECTRA TOWNIE (like the 21d).
Of course this means going to like 3 different LBS since no one seems to carry them all! And do the Treks and/or Townies ever go on sale?
Wish me luck - and if you have any experience with these models (or ideas on other brands/models I should also consider) please comment or send me a message. And if any of you live out here in the Puget Sound area and have a favorite LBS you can recommend, I'd like to hear from you, too.
Thanks! Have already learned so much from this forum!
