Hello and Apologies from NYC

Just rode bike for the first time in ~10 years. I used one of those Citi bikes that are all over Manhattan. I liked it (well, not the bike...that was bulky and unwieldy). I liked the riding. So I went and bought myself a bike. There's a LBS near my apartment and picked up a casual riding bike...a KHS Brentwood. Pretty good so far :D

And an apology to the riders out there. I would often go walking/jogging along the Hudson greenway. There's a bike/rollerblading path and a pedestrian path. Not always, but plenty of times I would just walk along the bike path instead of the pedestrian one :(. And now I apologize for that. While I like to think I was considerate and stayed to the side, after just one ride, I see that this was probably still annoying to bikers. I have learned the error of my ways.

wow, awesome video. It might take me awhile to work up to riding in the city streets, let alone at night, let alone in the rain!

Hi Monk, glad you decided to get a bike and also join us here at BF. Nice bike you chose there, the KHS are good bikes. I wouldn't sweat the path, just don't say that in the Road Cycling Forum:rolleyes: unless you are really in need of abuse and self loathing is your thing:roflmao2:. The Regional Forums for the New York are is a great place to connect with other cyclist for rides and such if you would like, Best of luck with your riding and the new bike, enjoy the happy miles it will provide.

Bill

Howdy, welcome aboard! Don't worry, you'll get used to the traffic soon. When I got back to cycling 6 years
ago, there was no bikeshare and very few bike paths. I educated myself on how to ride safely(taking the lane,
proper attire, using signals, etc.) and now I'm very comfortable in traffic. Bike New York offers free safety
classes, I highly recommend them: http://www.bikenewyork.org/education/

1nterceptor, thanks for that link to Bike NY. I will definitely check out a safety class.

10wheels, I got it in black. And I'm totally psyched about putting miles on it! I feel like a kid getting a birthday present! Already planning on waking up early tomorrow to hit the hudson path before it gets crowded and I can really get a good feel for bike.

You're welcome. I almost forgot, another fun way to get the hang of riding with traffic is
to go on a group ride. You get to know your way around(bridge crossings, less traveled
roads, etc.) and maybe go to new places.(museums, parks, etc.). Five Boro Bike Club has
free rides and the members are very friendly: http://5bbc.org/rides.shtml
