Whats up y'all.. My name is Ed and I'm 27 Yrs old (sounds a little like a personal ad). I live in Miami, Fl and have taken Mountain Biking up as my 'thing' now. The only problem.. I HAVE NO IDEA WHAT I AM DOING!!! I am an athletic guy, played college baseball, currently play in Basketball leagues, go to the gym etc. I bought I cheap Mongoose mountain bike from Sports Authority about 6 months ago on a whim. I don't know much about bikes so bare with me here... it had duel suspension, grip shifting, 26 inch tires, etc, I thought it was cool... thats about all I knew... without ever mountain biking before, I went to Oleta Park in Ft Lauderdale, Fl and hit the trails blind, but hard.. great trails with lots of rocks, roots, depressions, jumps, etc.. and now I am hooked.... BIG TYME!!! after a few months of mountain biking twice a week, and realizing that I am serious about it, I went to a great bike store down here in Miami called CycleWorld to get a better bike. The salesman there was cool, and he helped me pick out a sweet bike (or atleast I hope it is sweet)..

The bike is a Trek Fuel 80, XC Full Suspension Performance. I paid $1050 for it.

Frame - Alpha SL Aluminum
Front Suspension - Rockshox Pilot SL
Rear Suspension - Rockshox Bar Adjust
Wheelset - Alloy Front, Shimano Rear Hub, Bontrager Maverick Rims
Crank - Bontrager Select 44/32/22 W/ISIS
Rear Derailleur - Shimano Deore LX

Maybe this is not the forum to ask questions and get into this level of detail, Please let me know if there is somewhere else I should be asking questions. But since I am new to the site, I figured I would just post it here. I would like any feedback on the bike you might have.. if the price was good, the quality/performance of the bike, possible upgrades for parts, etc... like I said, if there is a certain forum or thread that I should be posting this, please let me know and I will paste it over there..

Also, I bought the shoes with the cleats that fix into the pedals, I got a few pairs of padded shorts, some socks, riding gloves, a helmet (obviously), Camelbac, and some sweet shirts. I also got a speedometer to see speed and distance travelled.. is there anything I am missing here that will make riding more enjoyable? any advice would be nice...

Lastly, I just want to say that I am really interested in getting serious about Mountain biking and would like to know of any mediums to learn more about maintenance, riding tips, strength training, basic parts/bike knowledge, etc... This website is the first place that I have found, so any other places to gain knowledge would be appreciated.

Ok, I am goign to get myself familiar with the site and I look forward to chatting with you all and getting to know and love this great sport... thanks,

Ed
