Hello from Roanoke VA

I'm a 28 year old male living in the heart of SW VA. I'll be getting a road bike from my borhter-in-law in a couple of weeks and will start riding regularly. Any Roanokers out there know of any good routes for a new rider? Also, can anyone recommend a riding/training plan to build up my time in the saddle?

Thanks

I live just down 81 in bburg and can tell you that you are in the heart of some of the finest riding the country has to offer, of course you may want to let the snow melt down a bit Check out eastcoasters.com for rides information also new river valley bike club (google search).

I'm up the road and over the mountain in C-ville. I'm planning to ride Bike Virginia, which will be in your neck of the woods this June. Maybe see you there?

I read about that. I'm not sure if I'll be able to do the whole ride, but I may try to do a day or two.
