My name is Jim Harrell and I live in Rockville, MD. I am 51 years old and only recently (within the last two years) developed a passion for bicycling. Prior to that, I devoted most of my spare time to restoring and racing vintage sports cars (mostly Porsche with the occassional British car just to sample the opposite end of the spectrum...lol). I'm pretty much a roadie, with an occassional excursion onto the C&O Canal towpath on my hybrid bicycle. I purchased a NOS Raleigh 'Super Gran Prix' and a NOS Raleigh 'Gran Prix' from two separate guys on ebay. Both of these bicycles were in their original factory cartons, unassembled, with all documentation. I think the 'Super Gran Prix' is a 1978 model and the 'Gran Prix' is a 1980 model. I like the feel of a steel frame beneath me. I recently purchased a 2003 LeMond 'Tourmalet' frame and fork that I'm going to build up for this year. My hybrid is a Raleigh 'Dash AL' that I acquired some time ago that has served me well over the years. I just like to get out early in the morning on weekends and just go. Evenings, weather permitting, I'll log a quick 15-20 miles before dinner. When I retire, I think I'd like to find a job in a bicycle shop somewhere and just turn wrenches when I'm not out riding.

I haven't been anywhere near the C&O since the early/mid seventies. Welcome to the forums. Your retirement idea sounds great!

Welcome to the forums. Ah, yes, the 'ol Raleigh Grand Prix. A nice riding/handling bike. I loved mine. I have the frame from my old Raleigh Grand Prix hanging in the garage. after the Raleigh came the Trek 1000 but now I'm on a recumbent. Just can't ride DF much any more. Sounds like you have a fun plan for retirement.

I still have the Raleigh Grand Prix I bought in 1983. I mainly use it for summer
commuting.
