Greetings from Livermore, CA

Hi BikeForums,

I've been reading some of the forums for awhile now and signed up initially to see the attached images but I'll look forward to participating too. I live in Livermore CA, a reasonably bike friendly community southeast of San Francisco and south of Napa. We are a wine region, and every weekend there are numerous peletons touring the roads around here. Personally I ride for commuting, health and pleasure, usually alone or with small groups I don't wear lycra and you wouldn't want me to. I just retired an early 1980's Austro Daimler AD-SLE, lugged 531, with a passable touring refit I did in college. It's been a fun and comfortable ride but I was ready for an upgrade. I just started riding a Rivendell A. Homer Hilsen that I picked up used, and am fitting it to my body and equipment preferences. So far I am really enjoying it and can tell the difference from my AD. the AHH is less of a sporty handler (e.g. pothole avoidance) but makes up for it in comfort and improved kit while being equally fast.

My favorite ride: San Francisco-Golden Gate Bridge-Tiburon-ferry back to SF. Perfect day with perfect views of the Bay and City. I either park near Ft. Mason or take Bart to Embarcadero. Stop for espresso in Sausalito and lunch in Tiburon. Total time 4-6 hrs, total distance is 20 miles by bike and 5 by ferry.

Welcome to bikeforums! Enjoy your stay!

While I'm at it, you should give the new bay bridge span bike route a try if you haven't. It's pretty awesome how we're finally able to ride a bike on it now!
