Brand new...slightly used...
Hello all. Well, I am new to Biking? Cycling? I am not sure what to call it (I do not feel like I fit in the title of Cyclist). In February of 2013 A friend and I started to run. Well, after being injured while serving in the military (non combat related injury), I realized that my knees would not hold up. My ex-wife (we are very good friends) who is a marathon runner told me how her and her running friends cycle to assist in the running aspect of life.
So my friend and I jumped on our kids really small, and very unkempt Wally world mountain bikes. We road 3.5 miles around a country block. Flat mostly with a false flat in the mix as well. We arrived at my house after our ride...fell on my lawn (still had snow on it), and died. We called our lawyers and had them set up last living rights for the two of us. We were done!
After a month of doing this we tried our very first 10 miler. WOOHOO. We had it made. We were some cycling fools! We did a fun ride of 12 miles. For this, my older sister (who son is into Mountain bikes...downhill races and the sort, along with being a bicycle mechanic at our LBS), loaned me her Trek 3700 Hard-tail for the ride. I AM KING OF THE WORLD! Or at least I thought I was. Sheesh. My buddy and I swapped out from the pile of Wally world to the Trek. We kicked trash and took names. By the time the end of April came around we had started doing 10 miles regular and picked up another friend that is riding with us.
So I spend the summer on the Trek mountain biking, commuting, and just riding as much as I could. Averaging around 60 miles a week. 3 or 4 rides on weekdays of 12 to 15 miles and a weekend ride around 30ish. Love to ride. Well, I came across a 1984 Team Fuji road eater (I call her that). My first ride on Ole blue was 30 miles. By the end I had noticed I had went from 13.5 to 16.5 miles per hour average, just from going to Ole blue. Well come to find out...Ole blue is HUGE for my 5'6" body to fit on.
So I went down and got a close out Specialized Allez Sport. It is the base model. LOVE IT No I am a stretchy pant wearing, sprocket headed, road riding machine! We have 5 in our little pack of bikers...lol. We all have road bikes and have drank the kool aid. We are in! We are training for our first century in the early spring, and a ride here in utah (if we can work it out) called the Saints to Sinners ride. From SLC to Vegas.
Anyway, thanks for reading my introduction. We are stoked about cycling. I am not sure what point I become a cyclist, but by dang, I aim to get the title. I commute (on lil red...the Trek). Only take out the New bike on good days. I ride to te store when needed. LOVE IT! I am hooked. If you have any advice for us...please give it to me.

P.S. Is your idea of a good time for your significant other that doesnt ride much...asking them to be support on a really long ride considered rude?
