Another returning to cycling
A friend of mine is always looking for something new to do. He got a bike, a Cannondale Synapse Ultegra. So I broke out my 1987 Specialized Sirrus which had been sitting in the back yard, exposed for at least 15 years. Cleaning it up, regreased the bearings, riding it while in process. All 105 group except for the BB, that was swapped for a Dura Ace not long after I got it, the original 105 melted down. It has the original 52/42 biopace crank and HG 12-23 6sp cogs in the back. Everything is cleaning up nice, some items just take a bit more scrubbing than others. The only change I would like to make would be to gear it better for hills. Or I could just ride more and get my legs in better shape. I swear it rolls as good as that Cannondale, handles great, is incredibly comfortable, and I have no problems keeping up. Damn, I still love this bike!!

Welcome back to cycling and to Bike Forums. Got pics of the bike?

I am SOOOO suprised at it's condition and it's ease at being operational again. Grease, elbow and real, new cables, bar wrap, hoods, brakes pads, and tires and it was rolling again. For around $200. Nice!! Another friend had the seat sitting in his garage so he gave it to me. BB and headset had minor pitting but they feel fine after a good cleaning. The hubs were in like new condition. The pedals came with my MTB, went to SPD with a platform on it so this bike got those. For my purposes a mountain shoe with spd's will be fine.
Thanks for the welcome. I'll be hanging mostly in the C&V getting tips and ideas for possible upgrades. I'd like a few more gears, but not really sure why. Should probably just change the front rings and have same result as changing the entire cog set in the back. Maybe a 50/39, something like that.

Welcome to BF! You must be at a secure location in a fairly arid area. Fifteen years sitting still outdoors and exposed would kill any bicycle and most motorcycles and cars where I live -- and that doesn’t even take into account the probability of theft. You’re lucky your trusty old bike is still with you and not rusted solid. Give it some TLC and enjoy it!
