Hello from Central Cal
I started riding "seriously" in 1982 when my bike was stolen at college. I replaced it, and I have been addicted ever since. I started off doing long-distance solo touring (Pacific coast, Cal, Ore, Wash, trans-USA, England, Wales, Ireland). I have recently taken up long-distance racing events (2011 and 2012 Furnace Creek 508--totem: "Krautdogs"; 2012 RAAM). I am a teacher, commute 50 miles a day, and ride in the mountains as much as I can. I also work as a bike mechanic at the local REI, which is the best 2nd job I could dream up for myself. I love it there! I own a stable of bikes, including touring bikes, fixed-gear bikes, a mountain bike, some racing bikes, and as of a few days ago, a Bike Friday tandem. If I had a larger garage and/or workshop, I'd have even more. I love riding them, and I love working on them. I hope to take on some new events this year, including the Trona 308, the Death Ride, and maybe the 508 again, wherever it is going to be (Death Valley has been closed to all cycling and running events until further notice).

Welcome to BF! That’s an impressive and enviable list of completed tours. When are you going to do Iceland’s Ring Road, Noway’s Arctic Highway, Tibet’s Friendship Highway, something in Patagonia or maybe the Amsterdam-to-Vladivostok run?

Ooooh, those are all very tempting. My son is almost 10, and when he's a little older, I hope to take him on some tours. Maybe not as exotic as those, but any tour would be better than nothing.
