New Member Florida to Colorado

Hello all.

I'm moving from SE Florida back to Denver (no, not because of legal marijuana :p). I lived in Denver for 12 years and moved to Florida 4.5 years ago for a job opportunity that didn't work out like I'd hoped. So with some luck I'll be moving back to Denver (or somewhere in the western US) in the next 30 to 90 days.

I started riding recreationally back in the '90's on a Trek MultiTrack 7900 doing mostly roads and paved trails where I grew up in the Chicago area. I moved to Denver in 1997 and brought the 7900 with me. Began riding in Colorado and really liked it. I added a Lemond road bike and started riding the mountain roads.

Then I got into BMW motorcycles and fell in love with sport-touring & motoring through the Rockies. Sold my Lemond shortly after but kept my Trek 7900---I don't think I rode it 5 times in almost 10 years. I brought it to Florida when we moved here and it mostly sat in the garage.

Now in my 50's my waistline started "expanding" so I got the 7900 tuned up and began riding along with 2-3 trips to the gym each week. One thing about Florida that I hate for motorcycling---I began to really appreciate for bicycling. Florida roads are all flat and straight---and of course, the greatest benefit is you can ride year round.

So since I'm returning west, I picked up a new Trek 8.5 DS hybrid. I still have 25-30 lbs to get rid of, so I'm looking forward to visiting the forum and learning more about how to enjoy my hybrid and get down to a healthy weight again.

Mike

Welcome to BF! You might enjoy the 50 plus forum. There are a number of us that got back into cycling in our 50s.

Nice to meet you Mike!

You made an excellent decision of riding a bike to shed those extra pounds! Many success stories here.
Persistent effort with a goal in mind is key. Best of luck! :)

Welcome to BF from another Floridian… Just remember FL doesn't have any hills and you can ride all year long in shorts…. Denver NOT SO MUCH

Cool thing about climbing in Denver-----what goes up, must come down!

We'll be looking for your posts with pics of you and your bike stuck in a snowdrift. You can always come back to the warmth.
