Hello from Virgina
Hey all,
I just recently got back in the saddle after being out of it for quite some time! I quit smoking 2 months ago and decided that it was time to get back on a bike. I have 80's Miyata 1024, a vintage 10 speed cruiser which is working out well so far. After I have been riding for a while I am hoping to do some kind of race or at least a centennial ride!

Welcome to BF and back to cycling! Congrats on having stopped smoking, too! If you can do the first two months off, you can do two decades off---so stick with it. I’m now 12 years off but it still shows up sometimes in my dreams!

welcome to bf and congrats on quitting. now that you have a few weeks w/o those nasty things your withdrawal symtoms are done and gone. If you start smoking again the sick dizzy feeling will return, the phelgm will come back, and worst of all the shame of failure will eat at you. been thee too many times.
spend some time getting used to riding again. work yourself up to and do some solo 50 milers before you start thinking about an organized century or racing. Be careful out there and have fun.
If you dont have a helmet, gloves, and rear blinking light get them. You also want waterbottles, toolkit, and pump. Clipless pedals/shoes are pretty nice too.

Jame, cato is right about the solo 50 milers. Sunday is my day for that.
I'm glad you have decided to stick with your older ride. There are some
nice, lighter component upgrades to be had, though. Welcome to Bike

Welcome to the forum and welcome back to riding. Isn't the Nice Bridge the one at Dahlgren (King George County)? I lived in Fredericksburg for 12 years, but that was many moons ago. In West End of Richmond now.
