Older Newbie from the Old North State

Greetings ... I'm 62 mad am ready to get back in the saddle after a good 18 year rest. My wife and I bought some nice Trek hybrid/commuter bikes a couple if years ago and promptly turned them into garage art. While they are impressive hanging on the garage wall, they are not helping me reach my goal of getting my doctor off my back.

At my last physical, my doctor said that I am in good health but I am fat. Yep, she said the "f" word. I am not going to take up running and I enjoyed biking back in the day so I'm going back to riding. I'm happy to have found this forum and hope to use the info and stories here to keep me motivated.

I'll be taking my first tide in about 10 hours. Wish me luck! Good to be here.

Trek hybrids make much better kinetic road art than static garage art.

Hope you have a great ride!

mcmoose ... you are quite right. Thanks for improving my art appreciation level. I think I'll paint an outline of the bike on the wall where it hangs now and title it, "this is not a bike."

Welcome to BF and back to cycling! Remember the sage words of some old philosopher who once said “The most difficult part of any bike ride is getting onto the bike.” I also deal with age and weight issues and I’ve found that once I get the bike rolling, the rest of it is comparatively easy. Getting started is >90% of the difficulty for me.

Fatdog you're another rider I might see in the near future, maybe on the greenways. I'm in Kinston but I have a brother in Raleigh & another in Chapel Hill, and daughters at State & Peace, so we plan on doing some family biking this spring. I'm 56 and looking to drop some weight too. Hope your ride went well yesterday.
