My intro. New to everything

Hi people. This is my first foray into a forum devoted to bicycling. I recently picked up a late 80s (?) Peugeot Canyon Express. I don't have any decent pictures of it at the moment. It's a bit gloomy outside and I want to get a few in the sun. I do have a picture I took of it along with its stablemates, albeit they are motorized

Anyway, the bike as pictured needed tires and a few tweaks. I took it to someone locally whom I found on Craigslist, and he charged me an extremely reasonable sum of money to replace the tires, replace the chain, lube the cables, and adjust the shifters. I was more than pleased.

I don't know much about bicycles, but it is something that piques my interests. I'm an avid runner, but I've accumulated some over-training related injuries, so I've really had to cut my mileage back. Bicycling was offered as an alternative as it is aerobic, but focuses on different muscles and tends to be gentler on the ankles.

I got the Peugeot because it was very inexpensive, seemed to be a very good aesthetic condition (no rust, never left outside, everything greasy--not dry), and honestly, I'm a bit of a car nerd and my first car was a Peugeot

I intend to use the bike for errands (I live very near a grocery store), light commuting, and just general fun. A Mountain Bike was recommended to me by a friend just because of the rugged construction and the fact they tend to be more comfortable (or so I'm told) than a full on road bike. The new tires I obtained are "hybrid" tires? I think it means they are mostly road oriented but can handle loose surfaces as well.
