Hi All,
I'm in Olympia, WA having recently made a jump from Jupiter, FL... the Jupiter to Oly tour was successful! I'm presently riding a fairly unsatisfactory 2006 Schwinn Sierra GS which I've gussied up for commuting with some reflective Continental city tires, some fenders, lights, a bike rack off my 1990 Raleigh Technium, a trunk, a bell, you get the idea... I've been riding for pleasure since the training wheels came off around 1969, and to get to work and back (sometimes) since around 1992. Before lighting the rockets to escape Jupiter, I jettisoned my car in a serious effort to commit to one car in the family (my wife's) and a bike for me to commute to work. Gotta keep this body moving as long as its brain can do math... hence the purposeful, forced exercise.
I'm riding a little over 3 miles each way right now, but looking to ride farther either by moving or just not taking the shortest distance between points a and b. I'm very fortunately located with a slight downhill ride to work along relaxed and bike-friendly streets and the Olympia Woodland Trail which takes me about 13 minutes with the slight uphill return taking about 17 minutes.
So, sure enough, it's wet up here in the PNW (imagine that). My properly installed and aligned Kool-Stop salmon brake pads generally do the trick, but are noticeably less effective when it's sloppy out. On that note, I'll leap into the forums and ask a couple of questions about disc brakes and the shiny and fancy new 2014 Jamis Coda Elite bike!
This forum is a great resource. I've been lurking and feeding my OCD for a few months now. Thanks to Joe Gardner, the moderators, and all of you who make this thing work.
