Good Day

Hello good folks,

I have been cycling on a fixed gear for years, which was recently stripped by some thieves. I joined to gather knowledge in preparation for purchasing a replacement. We have a lot of hills here, so I am considering the switch to a geared bike; its something I am torn on.

Welcome to BF! Just a personal feeling, but... I think if you go with a geared bike it’ll open up an entire new world of cycling possibilities to you. If I had to choose between the traditional purist ride of a fixed gear bike or the (IMO) vastly expanded world of riding a geared bike, I’d go with the latter. Good luck with whatever you end up doing.

Thanks for the welcome. I am leaning more and more towards the road bike; I live in a valley about 500' deep, so anytime I go anywhere I have a fairly long out-of-saddle climb, followed by a frantic spin on the way back down. Fixed is so much fun, but gears just sound more practical.
