new guy from Barrie, CAN
Hi! I've just joined Bike Forums as a guide to help me make an informed choice for a new bike. I should ad that I've not ridden in MANY years. LOL. I am 6' tall, about 225 lbs and 57 yrs young. I have looked at many bikes online and think that a cruiser/comfort style is best suited for me. It would be less strain on my back riding more upright. I'd value anyone's opinion tho as to what they think as anyone has had more experience then me. I am not willing to spend a lot tho as this will be used only for pleasure..... say >$100. So, obviously I'm limited as to what I can get.........but I want value also. I should add that Barrie is quite hilly so a fixed gear or FG as you people call them isn't feasible.

Welcome Ty. Many older riders here will disagree with you about the upright riding position, including me. I'm 69 and have 2 road bikes. The upright position has never been comfortable for me. Sitting upright puts pressure on your spine since it is straight up and down when sitting upright. Leaning forward on a road bike relieves the pressure.

Welcome to BF! Just a personal opinion, but... Do some window-shopping and info gathering at a good local bike shop. You should be able to get some good ideas about style, fitting, etc there...
