Welcome to BF! I’ve only read a little about Alton--- Korean-made, apparently (?) appropriate quality at a modest price. Just a personal feeling, but... If you’re getting ready to buy a bike, spend some time cruising local bike shops and find one or more good ones. Do some window-shopping and information-gathering. When you buy a decent bike from a good LBS, you may not pay the lowest price in the world but you’ll come away with a bike that’s fitted to your body, budget and intended riding style and uses. In addition, you’ll have a good service/repair facility ready to go when the inevitable need for that stuff comes up---and you’ll already be a customer there, so you won’t get treated like an outsider. I know a lot of people buy bikes they get shipped to them, but I’m a LBS advocate. I want to see faces that look at me as a friend when I need repair or maintenance done. And now... cue the entry of everybody who feels the opposite of the way I do...

I understand where you are comming from being a advocate for LBS
i wanted to buy one from a local bike shop I did but I just
don't have the cash available to go buy one I found the perfect one for me it was a Giant and it had front suspension and disc breaks and speed shifters fit me perfect 29inch wheels and a medium frame
I just can't spend that much it was like 600 is what I would have paid for it but I just can't put that out of pocket right now so I was ordering from an online shopping catalog that I could get from and use my chef account with them
they have 3 brains that interested me one bike was a Tour de France but the one I wanted wasn't in my price rang the cheapest one I saw I like was a jeep bike it had the shifters I liked the strait handle bar that doesn't rise that I like and it had only front disc brake not disc in rear
the other one that was my middle of the 3 prices was the Alton that had really all the options I was looking for and it would cost me 43 a month untill I paid it off and met the 559 price range I know it's about 80 dollars more than some of the websites I've seen this at but I'll pay the extra 80 for financing
im planing on going and support my lbs by getting my helmet and a comfort bike seat and a car bike rack at my local lbs and then hoping they will be the one I have it serviced at also

Welcome from west central Florida.
If you're looking for inexpensive you could go with bikesdirect.com.
Lots of folks here have bought from them.
Stop by the Southeast Regional subforum and say hello to the locals.
