Introduction of a new member -Where are you from? What do you ride? How long have you
Hey Guys,
My name is Terry and I work for Honda Canada in BC in the IT department.
Currently I ride a 21 speed mountain bike 'ross' I think, with a dual-shock system and it's orange and black. I bought it for a great price when *****rs was going out of business and have had it not even a year, but I'm badly out of shape and want to get back in asap so signed up for the ride to work week program we have going on in Vancouver. This makes approx 30km to and from work which I did last night. Not too bad overall but a little sore. The wind was brutal on the way home as it was past 8pm so the sun was gone already making it quite a bit colder than when I started. But I did it and I'm proud of myself. I didn't think I could handle a 30k ride. My a$$ is sore but I can only conclude that's cause I need to strengthen my glutes as I already have a gel seat protector.
Again, haven't had this bike more than a year and am now looking to pick up a commuter bike to make the trek easier - will be buying tonight. Looking into an Asama or maybe a Soma (really depends on cost). I'm not looking for anything special just something with thin tires to get me from point A to point B. Most likley 700 x 32 - 35c.
I've been reading so much today my mind is on info-overload. I had no idea there were so many optional parts for bikes. I'd love to have a racing bike but can't really afford $1200.
I would like to have a bike rack for my backpack and a speedometer but anything else is not necessary - although I'm thinking gloves might be a good idea.
My bike now currently has disc brakes and I love it, but really can't afford more than $400 for something new.
I'm not asking questions here just introducing myself and talking about my plans for the future.
Thanks guys.

Welcome to Bike Forums.
$400?? Here's what I'd recommend for a commuter bike.
Jamis Coda Sport. The price is just over your budget. We sold lots of these to commuters at the bike shop I worked at in Atlanta. Great bike.
If you can't quite swing the cost look at the Jamis Commuter series.
The folks in the Commuting forum (farther down the main BF page) can help too.
Good luck.

Hi Jesophiah,
Hello and welcome to Bike Forum. Congratulations on joining bike to work week and getting that first ride in.
I'm assuming today was day two. Hope your getting the swing of things on your bike.
Try checking out used Vancouver to see what's available in your price range of $400.
