Found this site by accident doing "the Google", looking for an answer to a question. So I signed up.
Pulled my 1997 Raleigh R700 off the rack after after hanging there for almost 7 years. That was in May. Started doing some rides after work (14-16 miles) for exercise. A little history; I had a total hip replacement 4 years ago. I always wanted a titanium bike and ended up with a TI hip. Oh well. I was getting micro fractures (post THR) from trail running and my doc said to quit jogging on the hip and do low or no impact exercises. I surf a lot so figured swimming would be good. One can only swim so many laps in a pool. Boring!! So I figured I'd dust off the road bike and start riding. I used to ride a few century rides a year and MTB quite a bit.
I started adding miles as the weeks have gone on, and as of today have ridden almost 300 miles total over the past 11 of 14 days. Feels good to spin again.
But the best part is........my most awesome wife surprised the hell out me on July 3. She said she had a surprise for me when I got home. Well when I opened the garage, there was a brand new Specialized Tarmac Expert waiting for me. wholly crap was I shocked, surprised, and over joyed. She TOTALLY surprised me out of left field with this. This thing is 5 lbs lighter than my Raleigh! Feels like a rocket ship. Carbon is so compliant yet stiff when you step on it. I love it! And I love my wife!!!!!! Thanks baby.
So that's my story. Back on the bike and having fun. No waves this AM so got out rode. Finished a HOT 46 miler today and feeling great.

Welcome to BF! I had my first THR 20 months ago and have been learning about the new boundaries on what I do ever since. I’d been into hiking and mountaineering for many years, so the new limitation that hurt the most was no longer being able to carry any significant weights on my back. No more hiking or mountaineering---beyond the level of little baby-size daypacks, anyhow... Oh, well... at least they haven’t taken my bikes away from me yet!

Enjoy that new bike!

You'd be amazed Lacumo at the things you can still do, which I'm sure you've already figured out. I rock climbed Joshua Tree 3 months to the day after my surgery. Surfing again after 6 months. I was on a wind trainer at 6 weeks and the bike at 2 months, for physical therapy. A THR ain't so bad compared to not having it done. I've slowed down the skateboarding but still roll around a bit.

Welcome to Bike Forums. Don't sell the Raleigh just yet. I started riding with a 1999 R600. Loved that bike.

Sold it in 2005 cause I was mostly riding my Litespeed and my commuter bike and "ignoring" the Raleigh.

I hope you get a lot of happy miles out of the Specialized. I bought a 2010 Specialized Tarmac Elite and rode it for 9 months. Never could get comfortable on it no matter what the shop adjusted or what changes I made. Sold it 9 months later.

Post pics of the bikes when you get a chance.

RonH, ^^^^^^ Nice R600!
Here are my roadies. The MTB's need a bath before they are picture worthy.

1997 Raleigh R700. Ultegra groupo, Chris Kings hubs with ceramic Open Pros. I also added the carbon fork, Salsa stem & Thompson post. Being mostly an MTB'r I put a longer TI Berzerker downhill saddle on it. Great for the century rides! Did alot of century rides on this bike from '98 to 2004.

The Tarmac is a 2012 but it is brand new off the showroom floor. Got it on July 3rd & already have 470 miles on it. It's a sweet bike. Had a personal best yesterday on my local 19.5 loop. 1:05:09. Finally got that 18 mph average for the ride. It's turned into my personal TT. Every time I go out I find myself hammering just a little bit harder. Not sure if I can go much faster. I'm satisfied with that though at 51 years old and a TI hip.

Here is the MTB's.
Mongoose Pro TI 10.9, converted to single speed. Really fun bike!

Azonic Sabre All Mountain.6" rear, 5" front Marzocchi Bomber, XTR/XT, Hayes discs. I built this one. Lots of night ride adventures on this bike all over San Diego & Orange County/ Riverside trails.
