NOLA Cyclist

Hey Bike Forums,

I'm a noob to the cycling world. My interest in cycling began when a friend convinced me to start commuting by bike, then got into the single speed/ fixed gear scene, then I rode my first real bike, a 2006 Bianchi Axis, and never looked back. I'm looking to buy my first real bike as soon as I have the money. I am interested in cyclocross bikes mainly for commuting, but also for road racing, cyclocross racing, light off-road trails (single track, gravel roads etc.)

I can only afford one bike so I think a cyclocross bike is the way to go. I am planning on buying a Gravity Liberty CXD from BikesDirect ASAP. I will have a bike fitting done at a local shop for $50 once I get the bike, and also have any maintenance that may need to be done (like wheel trueing, disc rotor truing, etc).

I am new to the cycling world. I have a ton of questions in regards to cycling. Any helpful guidance would be greatly appreciated.

thanks,
Hunter

Sounds like a good plan. I picked a CX bike for commuting in 2004 when I was still employed and bike commuting. Got it because of the crappy streets in Atlanta. It could take a beating that many road bikes couldn't. Rode it until I retired and then changed it back to CX and rode it off-road for a while.

I bought my Trek 820 in 1991 from a shop on S. Carrolton (I think) while at Tulane. I do miss that city.
