My screen name comes from my initials (Kevin Brown) and the fact that I'm an architect.
I was a moto official for local races for a couple of years, but last year I got a bicycle (Felt AR4) for the first time since I was in college, and took up racing myself. I just sold the motorcycle a couple of weeks ago because bicycling left no time for it.
I joined the big local racing club (CRCA) and New York Cycle Club for group rides and training, and although I've completed ten races to qualify for an upgrade to Cat 4 (and at my age, Masters), I'm reluctant to do so until I can finish with the field.
I greatly enjoyed riding the 75-mile portion of the NYC Century last year and plan to do the whole 100 this year (we'll see), and next year would like to do the NY Gran Fondo and maybe the one in NJ, too. Other than that, I'm not eager to try cue sheet rides in the country, mostly because I'm not eager to take a bicycle on a train or travel back-country highways with narrow, gravelly shoulders, or share the road with apex-hugging motorists.
Currently (in anticipation of future Gran Fondos and such), I'm putting together a steel-framed bike, and it occurred to me that I might have some wheels custom made as well. Fortunately, the proceeds from the sale of the motorcycle allow a fairly generous budget. The frame has been fabricated, but not finished, and since it's "vacanze" time in Italy, it will be a few weeks still before I'm riding it.
I'll ask questions about all that separately. This forum came up frequently in various search results (about kit, parts, etc.), so I'm looking forward to participating with you all.
