Greetings From a New Guy
Thanks for bringing a new guy on board! I'm from Florida, headed for Montana, and have ridden mainly road bikes from an early age. Haven't been on one for a while, trying to get back in the saddle. We've got about a dozen bikes in the garage of different sizes and vintages, including both vintage and modern road bikes and mountain bikes. I found this forum in my search for parts to bring back my old Raleigh Super Grand Prix from the dead. I've kept it up since acquiring it new in 1980 and riding it all over Auburn University and its environs. Recently, my eldest son thought he'd give it a spin. He's about my size (6'4", 250), and accustomed to mountain bikes. He didn't realize that you just can't really expect to get sufficient air under the wheel of a road bike with a 27" frame to clear a curb, and now my fork is "S"-shaped. So I'm here begging for help! I need a fork to fit a Raleigh Super Grand Prix with what looks like about a 280mm head tube. In an ideal world, I'd find one in Space Blue, but I'm flexible. About as flexible as my fork was, apparently. Any takers? Thanks!

Welcome to Bike Forums from west central Florida. Going to Montana for a vacation?
The 280 mm is the length of the steerer tube. You cut the new tube to the desired length. The diameter is the important number. I'm guessing its a 1". You should be able to get a new fork thru your favorite bike shop or search online at Nashbar or any of the dozens of other websites that sell forks.
If you'll be coming back to FL stop by the Southeast Regional subforum and say hello to the locals. If you're moving to Montana check out the Mountain-Plains regional subforum to meet any locals up that way.

You should be able to find something that works for you if you head over to ebay and search for "1 inch threaded fork 27 inch"
There are many options - all chrome is a popular choice for replacement forks because it goes well with any color.

Thanks, Ron. I believe it's a 1" tube, but the dealer told me the problem was that all of the available aftermarket forks have steering tubes that are too short for my head tube. From my investigation, it looks like he might be right--longest tube I can find is 250mm, which is too short for my frame. I've tried four local shops, and nobody had any suggestions except haunt e-bay and look for a used fork. So, for the moment, I'm stumped!
