Greetings from Melbourne
I'm a 23 year old student from Melbourne, Victoria. I got into bikes in 2009 when I started riding every day to uni and back. I built my first bike in late 2009 using an old but cheap 80's Jim Bundy frame off eBay. Loved and thrashed that fixed gear daily for 4 and a half years untill the down tube snapped in the middle of an intersection earlier this year. Turns out that frame was definitely not a Jim Bundy lol, but I still loved that bike. I also built a fixed gear for my girlfriend using an old Apollo road bike that her old housemate had no use for. She's got a much nicer Fuji flat bar road bike so she never rides the fixie which is handy because I've been riding that since my 'Jim Bundy' snapped.
My current project is to build up a beautiful (and genuine) Benotto. I was going to build it another fixie using the parts from the Bundy, but the frame is so nice that i've decided it deserves a full 80's racer treatment. Needless to say that decision has resulted in this project has going way over time and budget, but it will be so worth it.
I've been a long time lurker on Bike Forums (and similar) leeching great mechanic and parts advice, as well as inspiration from beautiful builds. Just thought I'd finally register to thank you all for the advice, show some photos of the new bike when it's finally finished, and hopefully make some useful contributions once in a while.
