Greetings from VA

Hi there,

I am looking into biking for exercise and hobby. I biked a lot growing up (riding and wrenching) and I want to get back into it. Looking forward to the great resource here on BikeForums!

I am thinking of purchasing a used road bike to get best bank for my buck. I came across a 2012 GT Series 3 in excellent shape. The bike has some upgrades but I wanted to get some feedback on price:

SHIFTERS: Shimano Tiagra 10-speed STI
CASSETTE: Shimano Tiagra,10-speed 12-28T
DERAILLEURS:Shimano Tiagra
LEVERS: Shimano Tiagra STI
CRANKSET: FSA Vero Compact 50/34T
BRAKES: RC 452 dual-pivot, cold-forged, with cartridge pad
SADDLE: GT Bio Morphic dual-density
WHEELSET: Rims: Jalco DRX 4000 with CNC sidewalls, 28-hole front, 32-hole rear;
TIRES: Specialized All Condition Armadillo 700X25 in the back, 700X23 in the front

The seller has agreed to $450. Does this sound like a good deal?

Many thanks,
Lucas

Welcome to BF! On that bike... I’d blow the additional $50 and get the new one. At least then you’ve got the LBS behind it. Not much of a savings, either...

Yea, I just saw that! The bike sold anyways...My budget is in the ~$500 range, but it seems like most LBS start around $700 which is why I am looking for used. If I had to stretch my budget I am assuming the extra $200 is a good investment if I know I am getting quality service, warranty, etc.? I am not looking to race, mainly endurance rides so I need something dependable and comfortable. What are some good bikes in the $500-700 range?
