Can't deny it, I'm a rider! Ride or die. Or better not, not die

Hey Forum,

New guy here from the always beautiful NYC. Rode bikes my entire life...
  • BMX as a kid in East Los Angeles
  • Mountain Bikes as a teenager
  • Beach Cruiser in my 20s when I lived out near the beach
  • and now
  • A beater single speed conversion in Manhattan.

It all started with CitiBike. Loved it so much I had to buy one of my own. Even sold my scooter because the bike was much better.

Either way, now I'm hoping to seek some expert advice and perhaps some emotional support (bike was stolen last month, bought a new beater, giving me a ton of headaches). This morning I did a little bunny hop off the curb and bent my back wheel. Just had it trued a month ago so I'm not sure what gives...

Should I continue trying to make this conversion bike happen and pay money for another true?

Or should I just scrap the frame, get a real (used) track frame and throw all my components on there?

Or should I just get one of those prebuilt Fixies?

HELP! (and thanks)

Welcome to BF! If I was in your shoes... I’d probably get into truing my own wheels... Or at least get a second rear wheel so I could keep riding while the injured one was in the shop to get repaired. As a second thought about doing rough NYC riding... I’d probably be doing it on a something bombproof with fat tires, lots or spokes and robust rims to minimize down time. Good luck with your quandary!
